Insecure Writer's Support Group is a blog hop hosted by Alex J. Cavanaugh where totally insecure writers can get together and share the things that are making us go argh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First off, Happy New Year!!
I’m
so glad that I’m kicking the new blogging year off with an IWSG post.
This is the year that I’ve decided I am going to publish my first book.
No more excuses.
The
only thing standing in my way is that I’m very much daunted by the
self-publishing process. I am by no means tech savvy. It took me months
to get my blog up to speed (it’s still not exactly whiz-bang but it’s
functional!) I don’t know how I’m going to cope with all the technical
aspects. Not to mention all the other bits and pieces that go along with
it. I’m going to need to figure out how much to price my books, do my
own self-promotion, beg people for reviews, console myself when I get
bad reviews and worst of all figure out how the Australian and US tax
treaty works.
I wish you the best of luck. I really do, cause that means I'll finally get to read one of your books!
ReplyDeleteFortunately there are a lot of writers who have gone before you and can help!
ReplyDeleteGood luck, Lan! We can help each other out and get our books out there this year.
ReplyDeleteThat's one thing I've thought about a lot--the self promotion. I kinda came to the conclusion that I'll do what I can and not go overboard so as to overwhelm myself. Like, a short blog tour, and email requests to as many bloggers as I have time to send them to. I know that most authors go all out when they start, but I don't want to cut into my free time that much, especially when I want to write a new book! :)
ReplyDeleteWow. Congrats on finishing a book and good luck on getting it out there. Hopefully it'll all work out okay. :)
ReplyDeleteGood Luck Lan! I know you can do it. Me, on the other hand...I'm going to try my hand at traditional publishing for a while first...see if there are any bites. If not, then I guess I'll be taking the self publishing route as well. I'm too afraid to ask for things from bloggers, and the pressure of seeing their reviews after they post them. Plus I dont want to take part in all that publishing stuff unless I absolutely have to.
ReplyDeleteAt least you know one blogger who will be willing to review your book, beg-free! *cough, ME, cough*
Good luck with publishing the book! I follow a blog for newbie writers at jakonrath.blogspot.com, and he has lots of great tips. Maybe you'll get some ideas from his past posts? I have full confidence that you'll be great!
ReplyDeletePeople make self-publishing seem so difficult, but it isn't. Take baby steps. You can upload to Amazon Kindle Select and do well. Kindle gives you step by step instructions.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
Yay! Go Lan! I'm so excited that you're going to get your book out there!
ReplyDeleteHey Lan! Sorry I'm so late in replying. All the tech stuff surrounding self-pubbing is daunting! Feel free to shoot me any questions you might have. I also have a resource tab on my website with info on editors, book convertors, etc. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with publishing!
ReplyDeleteWow, that's huge! I wish you so much luck with publishing your first book. I'll be crossing my fingers for you!! You can do it, and just know there are people out there already rooting for you and your book to succeed :)
