May's question is: What is the weirdest/coolest thing you ever had to research for your story?
I think I’ve complained on here a number of times
about how much I dislike research. It’s number two on my list of things I
hate about being a writer after editing. Sadly, much like editing,
research is unavoidable. Which is why I try and
write what I know as much as I can! Most of my characters so far have
been gardeners/florist/
Oh yeah, research isn't your favorite thing, right? I almost forgot about that. I love doing research just after editing. I swear we are polar opposite writers! Hopefully, the research for the UF series will be easy.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy research--editing, not so much, especially when I'm told to cut something I really like. Food research sounds interesting. Maybe if I read all the bad things that can happen to it, I'll be able to stick to a diet.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I think research is one of the best parts of the job--learning all this strange, new information for the purpose of expanding others' minds? It's an honor and a privilege. Granted, I didn't do as much research before writing in a historical setting, but I think it's addictive. The more you do, the more you love it.
ReplyDeleteTry it, you'll like it! Well, maybe not but you will learn to endure. When I started out, you had to do that stuff in an actual library with hand written notes. Now, with the Internet, I feel guilty complaining.

ReplyDeleteI can't stand research either. I preferred making up my own rules etc. doesn't work that well though.

DeleteUpfront research can definitely make writing easier, but you'll likely still find questions along the way you need answers to! Hopefully you can find what you need online after that initial research.
