Misc Monday: Apologies and Promises

When I first started blog stalking it always really amazed me how bloggers would always put where they received their review books from and it blew my mind that many of them were given review copies. The whole idea was totally foreign to me because at the time my books came from one of two places: the bookstore or the library. Now that I'm 5 months into the blogging thing, I'm at the other end of the spectrum. I have so many books I want to read and usually get about 1 book review request a week. Which brings me to the apology bit of this post.
I've accepted quite a few review books and haven't been able to get around to reading many of them. That thought really bugs me because I've always been able to prioritise my time well. So I apologise to all the great and patient authors out there who have taken a chance on me and my blog. I appreciate each and every one of you.
What am I going to do about it you ask? Well from this moment on I promise that for every print book I read I will read one of my review books until I've caught up. Getting the e-reader will certainly help because a lot of my review books are e-books and I used to print them all out which was a bit of a paper guzzler.
Anyway, this seems like a bit of a random pointless post. Thanks for reading guys.

  1. The e-reader will certainly make it easier! I imagine that would have been a lot of paper, for sure...

I need to play around with some ways of organizing my TBR; I started off reviewing them in chronological order based on when they came in, but I've discovered a few flaws to that approach - for example, books from the S&S Galleygrab are only for 30 days, books from the library are even less than that...so it doesn't always make sense to wait to read them after the books on my list that aren't locked into a time frame. Then, of course, there are books that I want to review within a week or two of their release date, so I have to work that in...

    Ah. Life's so hard. ;)
I've always read a variety of books, but blogging has really broadened my knowledge of what's available. Two of the best books I've read this year have been indie stories, and I would have never found them without the blog...

OK. Off to work with me. But LOOK, I was awake in time to be your first commenter! :D

  2. BJ: I am just about to go to bed. How's the full time work going? I shudder to think of all the trees I've destroyed printing all my books. TBR's are awful aren't they? I have this list floating around my study with all the books I want to read and new ones keep coming up. Usually, I try and read books I think will help with my writing but even that isn't a surefire way to cull the herd. I'm at a loss.

  3. I have to say that my afternoons are spent reading and writing. Usual people might turn on the TV at the end of the day, and I do on occasion, but usually my nose is pushed in a book. I try to get all the reviews done, it is those wonderful people who let me borrow books who have to wait a while. I love them for it!

  4. This post isn't pointless! It's sort of like an apology, an explanation, and a promise all in one, which I think is such an amazing thing! :)

I know what you mean when you say that it's mind-blowing at first because some bloggers get so many ARCs -- and now there are just so many books we want to read that it's even more mind-blowing! That's one reason why I love blogging: because you find out about so many amazing books to read. The other is reading the awesome things that other bloggers have to say!

    Awesome post, Lan! :)

  5. So, you're getting a Kindle? I have one, and it's fabulous! If that's what you're getting, then you should be happy with it.

I've had to stop accepting review requests just recently because I have too many now. It happens to all of us book bloggers. I'm only one person and can only read so fast. Good thing there are thousands of book bloggers out there for authors.

  6. Rest assured that you're not the only one! I've seen several other bloggers in this same situation, including me! There are so many good books out there and so many interesting offers coming in that it's hard to prioritize and even harder to say no. I've started declining more review offers, and trying to stay away from NetGalley and Galley Grab as they're just too tempting! Good luck!

  7. An e-reader will definitely make it easier! I love mine so much.

It's hard to have so many books that it's practically impossible to get to most of them any time soon. Because, for me at least, I'm excited to read them all, so it kills me when I think about how long it'll take me to get to some of them.

Good luck, and have fun reading all those books!

  8. Beth: I don't know why but it's the books from the library that make me the most anxious. I think it's the limited time frame to read. Although maybe the deadline is what I need to keep me on the right path.

Mimi: I agree. I'm so glad I've found all the great blogs and even more glad I've been put in touch with so many awesome books. If only there were more hours to read :)

Cathy: I used to be awed by the many book blogs out there but now I'm glad there are so many of us. I'm even glad for all our varying opinions. I'm learning to say no to a few reviews as well.

Alexia: I am def staying away from Netgalley et al. Its a trap that I know I wont be able to get out of.

Karen: I'm excited to read almost anything that comes my way as well. Until I look at my TBR!!

  9. So we are in the same boat!!! I got so caught up with school, I didnt have time to put up my review for the book I have been able to read. I am finding that it's taking longer and longer to read the books, and I feel horrible. Ugh, maybe when I get used to the idea of being in school again I will be able to prioritize correctly.
